Governor Ron DeSantis Signs Anti-Riot Bill Into Law
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has officially signed an anti-rioting bill into law. The law increases the penalties to those who engage in rioting and unruly protesting.
The law increases charges on rioter who destroys historical structures such as flags and memorials. The battery on a police officer will land protestors six months in jail. If a protestor is arrested during a riot they will not be able to post bail until after their first court date.
"In Florida, we are taking an unapologetic stand for the rule of law and public safety. We are holding those who incite violence in our communities accountable, supporting our law enforcement officers who risk their lives every day to keep us safe and protecting Floridians from the chaos of mob violence" - Governor Ron DeSantis
The timing of this law is clearly centered around the verdict of Derek Chauvin over the death of George Floyd.
