"Chicago is a city that has always been at the forefront of progress, we are a city that is welcoming and inclusive, and we are a city that is ready to show the world what we have to offer." - Lori Lightfoot, Chicago Mayor
The Democratic National Convention is the party's quadrennial meeting to select its presidential nominee. The convention is typically a major political event, drawing thousands of delegates, journalists, and spectators from around the country. The convention is expected to be a major economic boost for Chicago. The city is estimated to receive over $100 million in economic activity from the convention.
The Democratic National Committee said it chose Chicago because of the city's "vibrant energy," its "strong Democratic tradition," and its "commitment to diversity and inclusion."
